July 1, 2026. The beginning of a year of change. I labelled this site as 52lbsin52weeks as I have a lot of weight to lose and I realize it will be a long process of change versus crash diets or GLP-1s.
I have been planning to lose weight for at least 10 years. I ran a marathon in 2014 and weighed 167lbs. That was about 20lbs higher than my adult-in-best-shape weight at 146. Being in the 150s sounded possible. But I had plantar fasciitis and having met my marathon goal, I let all progress slide. An instant 15lbs followed and then another 10. I have been riding at 192lbs for a long time until this past year where I gained another almost 20lbs – stress and a new drug for eczema caused the gain (not to mention being in menopause making it harder to lose weight)
I am about to retire and my first new part-time job is simply to lose the weight – one pound, one week at a time. I am now the CEO of me with new KPIs and new projects. Part of the plan is to blog everyday to keep me focused on my goal and to not let it slip.
My July 1, 2027 self will be significantly lighter, in great cycling shape and ready to take on the world. Everyday I will focus on what it takes that day to make progress and the small steps forward on this long journey. I hope to read all of these blogs next year, sipping my non-alcoholic drink of choice and admiring the change.
Up first is establishing a morning routine – a daily exercise plan, 10 min meditation, 5 min gratitude, affirmations and visualizations. I have downloaded Habitica to track my daily routines and check them off one by one.
I need to move from procrastination to just getting on with it – will reflect on my action plan whether motivated or not.
Will also reflect on how some work on self-discipline has inspired me to start this blog and hold myself accountable.
Welcome to the journey – as I read, every thousand mile journey starts with a single step. Every weight loss starts with one pound. I want to focus on that one pound, one week at a time. Starting weight 210.8lbs 😦
